Pumpkin Picking

I may have mentioned in the past how much I love autumn and part of the reason why is all the pretty pumpkins that are around.  I especially love the local farm stands and we have a really neat one at Porter Farms.  They have the most unique pumpkins around.
Our kids love to go and pick out the most unusual one they can find.
Buga just wants to find something to eat.
I love this display with all the cool pumpkins and mums.

Ally loves sitting on the pumpkins.

What cute kids.

Charles-Allen's favorite ones are the little white ones.

Gotcha!!

Parker is trying so hard to find a pumpkins she can pick up.
And Ally is trying so hard to pose for every picture.

 Cuteness.
She's finally found it, or so she thought.

Emmy can't decide.  I told her she can only have one and she has her heart set on at least three different ones.  I wonder which one she decides on.  Hint, it's not the one in her hand in any of the pics.

Fall Fun

My kids decided that it would be a blast to rake leaves and jump in them. It must have been fun because they played in them for a couple of hours, even when it got dark and Charles-Allen hates to be outside when it's dark.

The first time Charles-Allen jumped in he got hurt. I think he overestimated the softness of a pile of leaves.

They loved throwing the leaves in the air, I think it made for really cool pictures too.

Happy Fall Ya'll!(Emmy's new favorite saying:)

Corn Maze?

I took the girls to the local corn maze near our house saturday thinking it would be a fun day. The boys were gone to the Carolina football game and Charles-Allen will be going to the maze on a field trip with his preschool Friday, so it just seemed perfect. We were so disappointed. We've driven by it many times in the years that we've lived up here and my kids always beg to go. I heard it was expensive, but it looked like there was tons to do. Again, I was so disappointed. It was $10 for me to get in and $8 for Emmy. Kids 2 years and under were free. So for nearly twenty dollars we got to wander around, lost in a corn field. And I do mean lost. They couldn't have made it any more complicated if they had tried. It was so boring and being lost scared Emmy to death. I can see it being fun for a group of teenagers trying to get through it together, but that's about it. I mean seriously, I can step out my back door and walk around in a corn field. Better yet, I can go see my parents and ride their gator around in 100 different corn fields and my Daddy will cook dinner for us afterwards. Sorry to be so harsh, but there was nothing else to do. I couldn't believe it. I guess I should have been suspicious when there was hardly anyone else there. Especially since it was a beautiful Saturday and it was Chick-fil-day. Not sure why it was Chick-fil-day, except there was a big cow walking around. Now for $16 more dollars we could have gone on a hay-ride, or for $8 more dollars my 2 girls could have jumped on the two bouncies they had there. Or (and this is my favorite) for $32 more dollars me and my girls could have each gotten a small to medium size pumpkin. And trust me I believe in buying fresh pumpkins, I've already bought 6 this year and they were bigger and cost $8 less than 4 would have cost at this corn maze. So just in case you're looking for something fun to do I would avoid the corn maze, unless you just happen to have a ton of cash lying around that you"re not using. And now I'll stop complaining and show you some cute pics of my girls at the corn maze.

Boo

Sometimes I like to pretend I can decorate and today I tried to make these cute pumpkins that I saw on someone's blog. She said she bought her's, but thought they would be pretty easy to make and I loved them so much I thought I would give it a try. I went to Michael's and purchased the 3 white pumpkins for $9 (which i thought was a steal) and went home to attempt them. The first and only problem I encountered was free handing the letters. Not something I'm really good at. But after trying it on paper and then just going for it, with a Sharpie marker not doubt, I was done in no time (meaning about 2 hours). I had to paint over the letters because the Sharpie didn't cover as well as I liked and Emmy painted the tops of the pumpkins green. We then found some old candle sticks that I had packed up and this hideous mirror that I use to love and now not so much. And of course, ribbon from my vast collection. It seems I can't ever get enough of ribbon. But I am surprised at how good I think it turned out. And I just love that I can use it again next year!
